Duvets

A duvet is a large bag filled with insulating materials designed to keep its user warm like a blanket. Fill materials used in duvets are similar to those used in comforters and bedspreads.

Common fill materials include cotton, polyester, while more expensive materials like down or silk are found mostly in high quality duvets.

Duvets are usually flatter and thinner than comforters because eiderdown is a very good insulating material when compared to cotton. But of course, down and silk comforters will have good enough insulation for less thick comforters to be used.

Duvets are designed to use with covers, mainly because the traditional filling in duvets was eiderdown. Eiderdown couldn’t be washed easily and therefore it was always used with covers to protect the duvet itself. The cover could be washed periodically thus keeping your duvet relatively clean.

The covers not only help with keeping your duvets clean, but they also useful for those who are conscious about the design of their room. Instead of changing your duvets to fit the design of your room, duvets are always used with covers so you can just match the design of the covers to your room.

In fact, it’s not very important what color or design your duvet actually is. Most duvets come as white colour so that they won’t show through the covers. You can buy multiple covers and change them when you feel like redesigning the look of your room. Covers are much cheaper than duvets itself, so you can buy a lot more covers than duvets.

Some covers even come with double size prints for you to simply turn them around for a different design. That’s 2 choices for just the price of one. Usually, people use 2 layers of covers with their duvets each time to provide the duvet with additional protection against dirt.

Duvets are useful because they make your bed less complicated, they’re easy to handle and they provide decent protection against the cold. Most places in the world have substituted comforters and bedspreads for duvets, except in the coldest of climates.
