Comforters are actually most commonly used as a blanket in cold countries. They are used to keep the user warm, especially in their sleep. Although they are perfect for huddling over while watching tv in the bed as well.
Comforters are made of a covering and are filled with a variety of things with to provide insulation against the cold. Both the covering and the fillings can range from cheaper materials like cotton, polyesters, to higher grade materials like goose down, to the highest quality product - silk comforters. Naturally, the higher the quality of the comforter, the more cozy and pricey the comforter is.
The comforter is designed to be used with a top sheet and a bottom to protect both sides of the comforter against dirt. But they are not only used as blankets, sometimes comforters are also used as mattress pads if the weather isn’t cold enough to warrant a thick blanket like a comforter. The comforter’s padded design makes it comfortable to lie on, while using a lighter blanket to keep warm in the night.
Comforters come in various sizes that correspond to bed sizes, but you don’t necessary need to get comforters of the same size as your bed. Comforters act as blankets, so as long as it’s enough to cover you up, it doesn’t matter if your bed is a size bigger. Also, comforters are actually sized slightly larger than actual bed sizes so that they can drape down the sizes of the bed.
Like your other bed accessories, comforters need to be washed from time to time as well. Depending on the material of your comforter, it may not be possible to wash normally with water. To protect your expensive comforters, comforter covers may be used on the outside.
