Continued from Choosing Comforters and Bedspreads Part 1...
Weight
The weight of your comforters and bedspreads are somewhat related to fill power. High quality fill materials provide better warmth and comfort with less packing, and therefore reducing the total weight of your comforters and bedspreads.
Lighter comforters and bedspreads are less ‘oppressive’ for sleeping and it is one of the main reasons for choosing higher quality fill materials.
Thread Count
As the name would suggest, thread count is the number of thread for every square inch of fabric. A higher the thread count, means that the fabric has less spaces in-between, thus less thread edges. This means that the fabric will feel smoother and softer to the touch. Being densely sewn, the fabric is also less likely to have your fill materials fall out, especially if you’re using down fill. You don’t want to have prickly feathers sticking out, that just spoils the down comforter or bedspread totally.
Sewing
Thread count determines the quality of your fabric, but it’s the sewing that determines how well the piece holds together. Comforters and bedspreads are not as simple as just a huge bag sewn around the borders. They are in fact, sewn through or baffled, forming pockets of little boxes along the entire piece. A good sewing prevents these pockets from coming apart, making your comforters and bedspreads much more durable.
Allergies
Unfortunately, high end materials aren’t necessarily suitable for everybody. Some people are allergic towards goose down or silk and that makes them a poor choice for comforters and bedspreads at home.
When choosing your comforters and bedspreads, the most important thing is to make sure they are practical. Whether they provide sufficient warmth, whether they are easy to clean; before then thinking about styles and design. Your comforters and bedspreads best satisfy you when they provide you with comfort in sleep, not when you stare at them in the morning. Once you have gotten the practical aspects right, you will grow to love your comforter or bedspread whatever design they might be.
